President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) says the government is working on preventing fraud incidents with public satisfaction as the benchmark, during his address at an anti-fraud forum on Tuesday. He urged for comprehensive collaboration across borders and agencies, including public-private partnerships, to achieve fraud prevention.
In his speech, Lai said fraud has become a serious public concern, and combating fraud is the government’s top priority. He says the Cabinet’s anti-fraud efforts include successfully pushing forward anti-fraud legislation, revising the anti-fraud action plan, and securing a substantial NT$7.3 billion (US$228.8 million) budget for next year.
Lai says combating fraud requires a thorough understanding of criminal organizations and their use of technology and transnational operations. He expects relevant ministries to implement active measures against organized crime given their involvement in fraud, drugs, and illegal arms. Lai adds that an anti-fraud command center will be established to coordinate inter-ministerial efforts and emphasizes international collaboration and private sector involvement as crucial for effective fraud prevention.
In closing, the president rejected the idea that fraudsters are always one step ahead, asserting his belief that justice will triumph as long as the government remains committed to protecting the public.
