On Friday, Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) joined cabinet employees and their relatives in the family day event held in the Cabinet auditorium. Premier Cho took the opportunity to promote the government’s childcare policies, including subsidies for maternity, quasi-public childcare, and private university tuition costs. Cho urged the cabinet employees to help spread the word, encouraging more people to have children and confidence to raise them.
Attending this year's family day event at the Cabinet are 83 children, 14 three-generation families, and 55 households, totalling 194 people. The children were entertained with performances from a dinosaur circus and treated to soft-serve ice cream, DIY cotton candy, and other kinds of snacks. The premier handed out maternity bonuses to the employees, expressing the government’s gratitude for their hard work raising the children.
Conducting a quick and informal survey to find out how many participating children are under and over two years old, and how many are attending high schools and universities, Cho explained the new subsidies for children enrolling in public and quasi-public childcare facilities and an annual subsidy of NT$35,000 (nearly US$1,100) for students attending private universities. The government is also planning to open 200 additional classes for two-year-olds by 2026.
Cho pledged that the government will accompany the families all the way in their journeys in raising the children.
