The 11th annual Taiwan: A World of Orchids exhibition, in partnership with the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in New York, is being held at the Queens Botanical Garden from August 9 to 11. TECO New York Director-General Tom Chih-chiang Lee (李志強) spoke at the press conference, stating that Taiwan is a kingdom of orchids and that Taiwanese use flowers to make friends. He emphasized that by introducing orchid species, performances, food, and customs, he hopes to enhance the American public’s understanding of Taiwan.

Lee added that, of more than 400 species of orchids native to Taiwan, about 60 are very popular in the world's orchid trade, with Taiwan's total orchid trade volume valued at almost US$200 million last year. He pointed out that the United States is Taiwan's largest orchid market and the flower represents a growing relationship between the two country’s people.

This year's exhibition features more than 900 plants on display, orchid planting lessons, orchid handicrafts, performances, food, and various activities. Lee thanked the Queens Botanical Garden for its support of TECO New York, inviting the New York public to take part in a very special Taiwanese experience.
