Google Taiwan held an AI opportunity forum on Wednesday, unveiling a white paper with three major recommendations for the government to propel Taiwan’s progress in the AI era.

At the Google For Taiwan forum in Taipei, Google Taiwan Managing Director of Sales and Operations Tina Lin (林雅芳) highlighted Taiwan's exceptional talent pool, solid semiconductor foundation, and strengths in software and hardware integration. Lin also said Taiwan could potentially become an AI powerhouse given that it houses Google’s largest data center in the region and has a strategic position in Asia.

Google’s white paper on AI development and governance outlines three key recommendations aimed at the government. Taiwan Google’s Head of Government Affairs and Public Policy Anita Chen (陳幼臻) presented the recommendations. First, Google suggests investing in AI infrastructure to foster an environment conducive to innovation. Second, the document emphasizes collaboration with industries and civil societies to develop a talent cultivation system tailored to the AI era. The final recommendation focuses on promoting the widespread adoption of AI technology.

Chen explained how deploying AI in government departments and public services could enhance public literacy and assist traditional industries and SMEs in digital transformation. This initiative would require a national strategy encompassing technical guidance, education and training, low-interest loans, and subsidy programs.

Google encourages the Taiwanese government to seize AI development opportunities by establishing a responsible legal framework for AI technology innovation.
