The Interior Ministry kicked off its 2024 disaster preparedness training program for 11 central government agencies on Monday. The initiative aims to enhance disaster readiness of agencies that play a critical role in the Cabinet's operations.

Interior Minister Liu Shyh-Fang (劉世芳) stated as Taiwan faces natural disasters as well as man-made disasters, regular training for public sector employees is necessary. This not only effectively reduces losses but also strengthens the operational capacity of critical infrastructure and improves resilience. Four training sessions for 400 people are scheduled from July 29 to August 21.

Since 2018, the ministry has been implementing phase 3 of the government’s disaster prevention and relief plan, focusing on disaster responder certification, resilience community programs, and regional governance strategies.

The ministry also aims to continue working with civilian groups, schools, and institutions to increase the number of disaster responders and cultivate a proactive public response to emergencies. As of June 30, over 28,000 individuals have received disaster responder certification and a database of 1,210 trainers has been established. The goal is to increase the number of certified disaster responders to 50,000 by the end of 2025.
