The Central Weather Administration (CWA) lifted land and sea warnings for Typhoon Gaemi this Friday morning after the eye of the storm migrated towards southern China, just 200 km west of the Matsu Islands. While Typhoon Gaemi’s most severe weather conditions have subsided, another typhoon may be in its wake, due to approach Taiwan early next week.

Although the eye of the cyclone has migrated, weather forecaster Liu Yu-chi (劉宇其) says the typhoon’s thick tail will continue affecting Taiwan with rain showers and thunderstorms. Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu Island residents are advised to brace for heavy rainfall. Residents in central and southern Taiwan are not clear of the precipitation yet, either.

The CWA warns that the outflow and intense rotation will likely cause strong gusts of winds through Saturday, especially around coastal areas. Anticipated wave heights of over five meters also have the CWA warning against visiting the beach over the weekend.

Another storm is brewing to the east of the Philippines, which is expected to intensify into a tropical depression and head northwest approaching Taiwan Monday or Tuesday next week.
