Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) reported that the newly operational Feitsui Raw Water Supply Tunnel successfully maintained a stable water supply for the Greater Taipei Area, consisting of Taipei, New Taipei, and Keelung, during Typhoon Gaemi.

The water supply tunnel, launched in June this year, effectively ensured water quality for over 6 million residents despite a sudden spike in turbidity in Nanshi River's raw water.

Chiang also addressed the city's main weather-related issue of fallen trees. Out of the over 470 reported cases of fallen trees, about 400 have already been cleared. The mayor has instructed relevant departments to collaborate and potentially seek military assistance to restore the city's appearance by day's end.

In response to questions about the decision to suspend work and classes on Thursday, Chiang says that the choice was made following standard procedure, prioritizing citizens’ safety. He added that discussions with neighboring counties will determine whether normal activities can resume on Friday.
