Archery star Tang Chih-chun (湯智鈞) first achieved fame by winning the silver medal for the men’s team event at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, where he also won fourth place in the men’s singles category. At the Paris Olympics this year, he will participate in the men’s team event once again alongside and Tai Yu-hsuan (戴宇軒) and Lin Zih-siang (林子翔).
Tang, nicknamed “Tangbao” or “Soup Dumpling,” started learning archery in fourth grade and decided to pursue the sport competitively by the second year of middle school. In 2016, at the age of 15, he made a splash on the professional scene by winning the individual gold medal in the archery category of the National Middle School Athletic Games.
Tang was only 21 years old at the time of the Tokyo Olympics, when he competed with world class athletes for the first time. His outstanding performance made him famous throughout Taiwan.
As for Tang’s teammates Tai and Lin, this marks their first opportunity to compete in the Olympic games. Tai won the gold medal in the recurve bow category at the National Middle School Athletic Games his first time participating, and in 2019, he won the men’s recurve individual gold medal and men’s team silver medal at the World Youth Championships.
Tang, Tai, and Lin all expressed their desire to perform to the best of their ability in Paris and bring further renown to Taiwan’s archery team.
