As the Olympic Village prepares to receive athletes on Thursday, the Olympic Committee is finishing up the final details for the Paris 2024 Olympic Village.
Located on the banks of the Seine in the Parisian suburbs, the Olympic Village was built with the intention of revitalizing the neighborhood. In total, it includes 82 buildings, with 7,200 rooms, across an area of 52 hectares. Each building was designed by a different architect, giving every lodging its own unique character. The 2024 games have also been promised as the most environmentally sustainable games to date, a goal reflected in the design of the Olympic Village itself. Every building is equipped with solar panels, water recycling technology, and air purifiers to reduce environmental impact.
While a few details still need to be ironed out, and a final cleaning is to take place, most of the work currently being done is just the final touches.
According to Olympic Village Director Laurent Michaud, the village will host 4,000 employees, including village management, contracted employees for the 2024 Paris Olympics, cleaning, and catering, as well as 1,500 volunteers to work with and accompany delegations on a daily basis.
In total, more than 14,200 people, including athletes and other delegation members will pass through the Olympic Village.
Once the Paralympics have taken place, following the Olympic Games, the village will be repurposed into apartments and office buildings for the community, with the first residents scheduled to move in 2025.
With the Olympic Games scheduled to start on July 26, this is one move to look forward to.
