Raymond F. Greene has officially assumed office as the new Director of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), according to their press release published on Tuesday.
Greene, who was most recently the Deputy Chief of the U.S. Mission in Tokyo, Japan, said that he looks forward to building upon the achievements of his predecessors and further advancing the robust partnership between the United States and Taiwan.
The press release revealed that this is Director Greene’s third posting in Taiwan; he last served as the AIT Deputy Director from 2018 to 2021. Greene is a career member of the U.S. State Department’s Senior Foreign Service currently ranked Minister-Counselor, and has spent his 28-year career advancing U.S. diplomatic, economic, and security engagement in the Indo-Pacific region.
Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry recently extended a warm welcome to Greene and expressed its anticipation for continued close collaboration with the United States.
AIT, which serves as the representative office of the U.S., facilitates commercial, cultural, and other types of exchanges with the people of Taiwan under the Taiwan Relations Act of 1979.
