Vice Economic Minister Lien Ching-chang (連錦漳) attended the 2024 Taiwan Renewable Procurement Summit on Thursday, affirming that Taiwan will have sufficient green energy to meet increasing demands.

In response to the global transition to net-zero emissions, many international corporations are mandating their supply chain partners to adopt green energy. Domestic companies have expressed concerns about high green energy prices and doubts about the government's ability to supply enough renewable energy.

In his remarks at the summit, Lien states that the ministry is responsible for meeting corporations' demands for renewable energy. He asserts that the current supply of green energy is definitely sufficient to meet corporate needs,  acknowledging that the costs of green energy are higher and that prices will be determined by the market.

Lien also highlighted the difficulties in meeting annual renewable energy targets due to hurdles in site selection and opposition from local communities. He noted that the ministry has been promoting the twin transition in artificial intelligence and net-zero initiatives, where digitalization plays a crucial role.

Deputy Environment Minister Shih Wen-chen (施文真) emphasizes that renewable energy is essential for addressing climate change and achieving the goal of net-zero emissions by 2050. She emphasized that the government strongly supports the development of renewable energy through various strategies and has streamlined environmental assessment processes to accelerate Taiwan's energy transition.
