The KMT reportedly plans to recall Keelung City Council Speaker Tung Tzu-wei (童子瑋). This comes as the recall vote of Keelung Mayor Hsieh Kuo-liang (謝國樑) initiated by the advocacy group “Shanhai citizens' movement to remove Liang” advances to the third stage.
Former Keelung mayor and current DPP Secretary-General Lin Yu-chang (林右昌) during a media interview on Wednesday criticized the KMT's actions, accusing the party of attempting to provoke conflict and manipulate political opposition, potentially aiming to undermine President Lai Ching-te (賴清德). Lin says that this strategy could backfire, further angering civic groups and strengthening the recall effort against Mayor Hsieh.
Lin says the "Shanhai citizens' movement to remove Liang" is a citizen-led initiative, and the DPP central office does not need to intervene. He added that the movement's strength comes from public and civic groups, not political manipulation.
Lin also dismissed the KMT's plan to recall Tung as politically motivated and lacking genuine reasons, suggesting it was merely a retaliatory move. He expressed confidence that the public would see through the KMT's tactics, understanding the recall effort as a political struggle rather than a genuine call for accountability. When asked about the DPP's potential involvement or response to the recall, Lin said the party would address these issues after the recall action concludes.
