A Taiwanese woman has filed a complaint with the Foreign Ministry for being strip-searched by customs officers when entering Palau. The Foreign Ministry responded that it attaches great importance to her case and that it has begun communication with relevant Palau authorities.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jeff Liu (劉永健) says that protecting the rights and interests of Taiwanese people overseas is paramount and that this case is being taken very seriously.

The Foreign Ministry reminds travellers that the border management of other countries has the right to review and approve the entry of foreigners. However, if Taiwanese people encounter unfair treatment when traveling to Palau, they can ask officials to contact the Taiwan Embassy in Palau, which will try its best to provide assistance.

The Palau side stated that the search was carried out in accordance with the law, elaborating that all visitors are treated equally with no targeting of specific persons or countries.
