The Transportation Ministry launched the “Taiwan PASS TRA Edition - Hualien Revitalization Plan” Monday, which allows 2 travelers to travel the east coast for the price of one. The plan is available from July 1 until September 31 and includes TRA passes, MRT passes, and Taiwan Travel discount packages.
The Taiwan PASS TRA Edition is a digital ticket, integrating railway, MRT, and Taiwan Tourist shuttle services. After downloading the TPASS app, the pass will provide a 5-day TRA ticket, as well as one of four MRT passes and Taiwan Travel Shuttle passes. MRT choices include 2-day tickets for Taipei, Taoyuan Airport line, Taichung, and Kaohsiung. Also available are round-trip shuttles to Sun Moon Lake, Alishan, Kenting, and Qingjing. Originally priced at NT$5,600 (about UDS$172), these shuttles are available at a 50% discount for two people.
The plan is based on a similar promotion run by the Tourism Administration last January aimed at bringing more international tourists to central and southern Taiwan. The goal of the current program is to boost Taiwan’s tourism industry following the Hualien earthquake.
Users can purchase the pass through KLOOK or Lion Travel and redeem the code in the Taiwan PASS App. The 5-day TRA pass can be redeemed at 18 designated stations, and initial activation requires a seat reservation between Toucheng and Dawu stations. Passes must be activated by November 30.
