With a flurry of motion to the heavy hip-hop beat, moves that make the audience cheer, and an infectious atmosphere that onlookers can’t deny, Taiwan’s breakdancing “big brother” Sun Chen (孫振) shows off the talent that just won him a ticket to the 2024 Olympics.

Known by his stage name “Quake”, he is Taiwan’s number-one B-boy. Famous internationally as an explosive dancer and for his signature one-handed moves, Quake always puts his best foot forward, even if it’s injured.

In fact, he suffered a sprained ankle just before attending the Shanghai qualifying tournament. He competed on the injury in both qualifying tournaments, scoring 7th and 15th place respectively. With a total finishing score of 60, he secured 10th place, and with it, a spot in the 2024 Paris games.

After the event, Chen took to social media, writing about his journey from the bottom of the global rankings to where he is today. He said he hopes to enjoy his first, and likely last, Olympics as a part of breaking history.

The Paris 2024 Summer Olympics is the first time breakdancing has been featured at such a high international level. Quake will compete as a part of the Chinese Taipei team. With such high hopes and determination, his opponents are sure to be quaking in their boots.
