Medical Taiwan’s 2024 International Medical, Health & Care Expo commenced Thursday in Hall 2 of the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center. More than 280 domestic and international companies participated, filling 460 booths, a 10% increase in turnout compared to the previous expo. In addition, more than 800 international buyers have pre-registered.

Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) Chairman James C. F. Huang (黃志芳), organizer of the event, pointed out that this year’s expo has fully integrated AI technology. Its three main themes, All-Age Healthcare, Smart Medical, and the Supply Chain Gallery, primarily showcase smart hospital technology and home care solutions.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) discussed President Lai Ching-te’s (賴清德) vision for a healthy Taiwan and the need to keep pace with the introduction of new healthcare technologies. She emphasized the importance of implementing AI and other tools in modern medical care to ensure Taiwan is equipped to address challenges such as population ageing, declining birth rate, and medical personnel shortages.

Hsiao expressed her hope that leveraging the nation’s existing industrial advantages in information and communications technology will keep Taiwan’s healthcare at the cutting edge. She also said that the government will work to make relevant regulations that protect patients’ privacy as AI is introduced into clinical trials.
