President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) received a delegation from the American think tank the Atlantic Council on Tuesday. Visiting members included the President and CEO of the council Frederick Kempe, former President of Latvia Egils Levits, and former Czech Foreign Minister Tomáš Petříček.

Speaking to the delegation, Lai said the Atlantic Council is one of the most influential think tanks in Washington, D.C., and that its policy recommendations in international security and diplomatic affairs are held in high esteem across the U.S. and Europe.

He pointed out that the members of the delegation are experts in diplomatic and national security issues, and expressed his hope that they could provide valuable advice for Taiwan’s security and international standing.

Lai also emphasized that Taiwan, the U.S., Latvia, and the Czech Republic all share common democratic values and should stand together to safeguard global peace and stability in the face of authoritarianism.

He further noted that in the nearly one month since he took office, guests from various countries have visited Taiwan, all striving to deepen cooperation. Lai said his administration will continue to strengthen exchanges with like-minded countries.
