The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States (TECRO) held a meeting in Washington on Wednesday to discuss expanding support for Taiwan's participation in the United Nations system and other international forums.

The U.S. State Department says discussions at the meeting focused on supporting Taiwan's participation in the World Health Assembly (WHA) and other global public health agencies, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), as well as non-U.N. international, regional, and multilateral organizations. The U.S. also reiterated its commitment to support Taiwan's meaningful participation in the World Health Organization (WHO).

The U.S. State Department says that participants discussed global challenges such as global public health, aviation safety, climate change, and transnational crime, as well as economic cooperation opportunities. Participants highlighted the expertise that Taiwan can bring to the table in many areas including health, food security, green fuels for aviation, and the economic and political empowerment of women.

All participants acknowledged the importance of close collaboration with like-minded partners and expressed shared concerns regarding attempts to exclude Taiwan from the international community.
