A thick layer of snow covers the ground at the 369 campground on Xueshan, Taiwan’s second-highest mountain, turning the landscape into a wintery wonderland, but Shei-Pa National Park authorities still urge visitors to ensure they are properly prepared if they want to enjoy the snowy scene.

Hsu Chia-hsiang (許嘉祥), Deputy Director of Shei-Pa National Park, explained that the temperatures on the mountain had fallen below zero on Wednesday morning, and coupled with abundant moisture, this provided the perfect conditions for snowfall.

The snow has attracted numerous enthusiasts eager to catch a glimpse of the picturesque beauty. However, experts warn about the potential dangers of snow-covered terrain and are encouraging those wanting to hike in the snowy conditions to be adequately prepared with the essential tools.

Head of the Shei-Pa National Park's Recreation Services Section Hsieh Ming-chuan (謝銘銓) stresses the importance of three key items for snow trekking. These include a helmet, an ice axe, and crampons for secure footing and enhanced stability on snowy paths and icy surfaces.

With temperatures already dipping below zero, Shei-Pa National Park advises anyone planning to explore the snow-covered landscape to prioritize warmth and to exercise caution in case of unfavorable weather or icy conditions.
