Taiwan placed first among 24 countries in the 2nd WorldSkills Asia competition held in Abu Dhabi from November 27 to 29. The participants won a total of 25 medals, including 12 gold, 6 silver, 4 bronze, and 3 excellence awards, which is nearly double the amount of medals last year.
The team consisted of 31 competitors from Taiwan, who participated in 29 different occupational categories. In the youth category, Sun Ching-to (孫謦奪) won the gold medal in fashion design. She said she was surprised and honored to win.
In the youth category, Tai Chia-chuan (戴家畯) won the gold medal in the plastering and drywall system category and was also awarded the Best of Nation award. In the junior category, Hsu Yu-wai (許有崴) won the gold medal in electrical installation. The Labor Ministry said that the competitors had to work hard and overcome many challenges to achieve such success.
At the closing ceremony of the competition, the president of WorldSkills Asia passed the flag to Labor Minister Hsu Ming-chun (許銘春) as Taiwan will be the host country of the 2025 competition. This is the second time that Taiwan will host the international skills competition with the first event in 1993.
