Taipei’s Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall was filled with celebrities in stylish clothes and the flashing lights of photographers last weekend, as they all gathered for the 60th Golden Horse Awards.

The 60th Golden Horse Awards took place on Saturday evening, maintaining its reputation as one of the most important award ceremonies in the Chinese-language film industry. Winners included Wu Kang-ren (吳慷仁), who won Best Leading Actor for the Malaysian film "Abang Adik” (富都青年).
Wu was visibly moved during his acceptance speech. He says that he has been quite hard on his body for the past few years and that at the age of 40, he knows he must make a change. He says he looks forward to his future self and future film projects.
At the young age of 12, Audrey Lin (林品彤) set a record as the youngest recipient of the Best Leading Actress award in the history of the Golden Horse Awards. She was nominated for her role in the film “Trouble Girl”. Audrey says that she really enjoys acting and wants to continue, but will first focus on her studies so she can do well in school.
Hsiao Ya-chuan (蕭雅全) won his first Golden Horse as Best Director for the film "Old Fox." The film also took home Best Costume Design, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Original Film Music, totaling 4 awards, the most of any film this year.
The Best Narrative Feature Award went to “Stonewalling”, which tells the story of a university student returning to her hometown after an unexpected pregnancy. Directed by the cross-national couple Huang Ji (黃驥) and Otsuka Ryuzo, the film also won the award for Best Editing. Huang Ji expressed her amazement, surprise, and joy stating that they didn’t expect to receive this award.
The award for Best Supporting Actor went to Chen Akio Chen (陳慕義) for his role in “Old Fox”, while "Day Off" actress Beatrice Fang (方志友) won Best Supporting Actress. The Best New Director Award was presented to Nick Cheuk (卓亦謙) for his film “Time Still Turns the Pages” and the highly anticipated Best New Actor award went to Yoyo Tse (謝咏欣) for his role in “Fly Me to the Moon”.
The film "Snow in Midsummer," which received 9 nominations, ultimately won only the Best Sound Effects award.
The 60th Golden Horse Awards saw the participation of numerous international filmmakers, including Ang Lee (李安), Takeshi Kitano, Koji Yakusho, Satoshi Tsumabuki, Mitsushima Hikari, and hundreds of other filmmakers and actors. Legendary cinematographer Chen Kun-hou (陳坤厚) and actress Brigitte Lin (林青霞), who both received Lifetime Achievement Awards, also walked the red carpet, bringing together star power from across generations.
