The Tourism Administration is holding a three-day forum and exhibition on sustainable tourism in Taipei’s Huashan 1914 Creative Park from Friday to Sunday. Tourism Administration Director Chou Yung-hui (周永暉) attended the opening and called on Taiwan's travel industry to grasp the emerging trend of low-carbon tourism.
Chou says that the world is pursuing sustainable development and digital transformation in the post-pandemic era and that as a result, eco-tourism and tribal tourism with a focus on nature are becoming increasingly popular.
Chou also noted that six of Taiwan's national scenic areas received international awards at the 2023 Global Green Destinations Day Conference. This is double the number of awards won in the previous year, marking the highest number of certified destinations for Taiwan in the eight years it has participated in the competition. In the future, the Tourism Administration will actively guide tourism operators to obtain international sustainability certifications. It also aims to promote the sustainable management of the tourism ecosystem and transform Taiwan into an island of sustainable tourism.
