The Legislature is set to remove tariffs on several items originating from Eswatini. The revisions and amendments to the Taiwan-Eswatini economic cooperation agreement will take effect 30 days after the two countries confirm their respective domestic legal procedures have been completed.
In September of this year, the Cabinet submitted a draft amendment to the agreement to the Finance Ministry, which then handed it to the Legislature for review. The amendment removes tariffs on 46 goods including nuts, dried fruits, cane sugar molasses, dried onions, vegetable juices, textiles and clothing, and others.
A written report submitted by the Agriculture Ministry pointed out that removing tariffs on these products will help enhance bilateral agricultural trade and friendly relations, and will not negatively impact Taiwan’s domestic agriculture industry.
