Vice President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) met with Taiwan’s representatives at the 2023 39th World Federation of Master Tailors (WFMT) International Congress on Monday.
Lai said that although Taiwan joined the WFMT in 2003, it has made rapid progress and the representatives who participated in the congress achieved outstanding results. He added that the country has a very strong textile industry with an annual output value of more than NT$400 billion (nearly US$12.5 billion) through 4,500 companies that provide more than 140,000 jobs.
In addition, Vice President Lai also emphasized that the government attaches great importance to technical and vocational education. Starting in 2024, vocational tuition will be free of charge, and school equipment, teacher salaries, and further training will also be subsidized so that students can obtain better skills to add to Taiwan’s industry.
