President Tsai Ing-wen spoke at the opening ceremony of the 2023 Electric Appliance Fair at the Taipei World Trade Center on Friday. She said that not only is shopping for home appliances fun and therapeutic, but exhibitions promote and stimulate domestic demand.

The President pointed out that Taiwan’s economy has continued to recover in recent months and from just January to September this year, retail electronics sales reached a record high of NT$3.3 trillion (US$102 billion). She said that the home appliance industry has also responded to government policies and has been actively launching more energy-saving, smart home appliances with improved performance.

Organizer Taiwan Electrical Appliance Association Chairman Liao Chuan-ping (廖全平) says that buyers can receive up to NT$2000 (US$62) in tax refunds for purchasing energy-efficient appliances. He adds that there is also a central government subsidy of NT$3,000 (US$93) for replacing old devices and many local governments also provide subsidies for related home appliances. Consumers can get back these funds on top of the money saved by using less energy.

President Tsai calls on everyone to take advantage of tax refunds and subsidies to further Taiwan’s commitment to net-zero transformation.
