Seeing people line up is not an uncommon sight in Taiwan but it is peculiar to see long lines of people waiting for their turn at a…blood donation center?
Blood in southern Taiwan is in short supply now which is why blood donation centers have a number of promotions to encourage more people to give their blood.
A blood donation center in Donggang, Pingtung is giving away a free bag of white rice worth 3 kilos if 250cc of blood is donated. If 500cc of blood is given, then an additional pack of ginger duck soup and a Taiwan-style salted pork packet is also offered.
Some centers have even prepared a separate area to provide free haircuts to those who donate blood as well.
Blood centers in Tainan, Chiayi, Kaohsiung and Pingtung are even giving away free ferry tickets up until November 3. Round trip ferry tickets to Xiaoliuqiou, a popular tourist destination, are up for grabs regardless of the amount of blood being donated.
You might not think that donating blood can be A- experience, but at least in the south of Taiwan, you can B+ about it.
