Asia’s largest transgender march to kick off in Taipei
2023 Taiwan Trans March

2023’s Taiwan Trans March is kicking off in front of Taipei’s Ximen Red House on Friday evening. The event will be held by the Taiwan Tongzhi Hotline Association (Hotline) and is expected to see more than 4,000 attendees, according to a press release by the organizer.

According to Hotline, transgender individuals suffer discrimination on a daily basis despite the recent significant progress of gender equality in Taiwan. It says that Taiwanese society still puts pressure on people defying binary gender norms.

Hotline Southern Office Director Wayne Chen (陳威峻) said in an interview on Friday that the purpose of holding the march is to raise public awareness and understanding of the challenges that transgender individuals encounter in Taiwanese society. He added that the event will bring to light concerning issues taking place on campuses, in workplaces, and in medical settings.

The event will include story-telling and advocacy speeches by transgender individuals and will also feature performances by drag artist Feilibing IceQueen (飛利冰) and the rock band P!SCO led by the transgender singer Rachel Hsu (芮秋).
