Army tanks were spotted on Sunday in Kaohsiung’s streets, startling residents. Thankfully, the unusual sighting turned out to be a military drill and residents could assuage their fears.

Is there something serious happening? This was the question residents of Kaohsiung were asking when they saw army trucks and tanks rolling down the streets. The sight of the tanks, which appeared at the intersection of Wufu and Zhongshan roads, raised concerns among residents.
One witness says that it’s not every day that you get to see this impressive display happening right in front of your eyes. He admitted feeling a little shocked as the tanks were loud and slow. He said it was difficult to not pay attention and wonder what was going on.
Another witness says she opened her window and saw several huge vehicles passing by. She says she had never heard anything so loud.
The tanks also startled many tourists who were visiting Kaohsiung at the time. After seeing the tanks in the downtown area, they immediately turned to online forums, seeking answers as to what happened.
Another witness says that he knew there were drills with tanks happening, but seeing it on the streets of a city was rare and evoked strange feelings.
The National Army's exercise drill, which began on the 21st and will last for 7 days, is being conducted by the infantry and NAVY. The purpose is to verify the effectiveness of the unit's training and operational management performance.
So, if you do see tanks in the upcoming few days, there is no reason to panic.
