On Tuesday, Foreign Minister Joseph Wu (吳釗燮) said that his ministry has helped evacuate 156 Taiwanese citizens from Israel safely amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. He adds that there are 147 citizens who have chosen to stay for the time being.
Foreign Ministry Department of West Asian and African Affairs Director-General Anthony Ho (賀忠義) said that the foreign ministry will follow up with the situation, share intelligence with like-minded countries, and provide humanitarian assistance to those affected by the war. Ho added that the Foreign Ministry has remained in close contact with its citizens on the ground and will provide assistance if needed.
The Foreign Ministry has also raised its travel alert from yellow to orange, advising Taiwanese citizens’ not to visit Israel unless it is necessary.
