The United States military has the resources and the force posture to deal with any potential global contingencies that it may decide to involve itself in. That’s according to U.S. Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Indo-Pacific Security Affairs Jedidiah Royal, who made the comments on Wednesday. Royal was speaking at the annual forum of the think tank Global Taiwan Institute in Washington, D.C.
His comments were in response to a question about whether the U.S. could handle simultaneous crises in Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan should they occur.
During his speech, Royal said that the U.S. is committed to its long-time policy of strengthening Taiwan's self-defense capabilities, which remains a key priority for the U.S. government. Royal says that the U.S. will continue to support Taiwan regardless of the outcome of Taiwan’s upcoming presidential election.
The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) Chair Laura Rosenberger also spoke at the forum. She says that the U.S. has full confidence in Taiwan's democratic election process, that the U.S. will not take sides in the election, and looks forward to working with the next president.
