Former Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison emphasized the need to maintain the status quo in the Taiwan Strait during his speech at the 7th Yushan Forum on Wednesday.

In his address, Morrison said building a resilient regional deterrent that includes Taiwan will further defend and preserve Taiwan's peace and freedom. He stressed that maintaining the status quo is crucial given the continued threats and challenges faced at present and in the future. He added that this was at the core of Australian policy during his administration.

Morrison believes that maintaining the status quo prevents conflicts and ensures Taiwan's sovereignty and right to self-governance. Moreover, it brings peace, stability and prosperity to the Indo-Pacific region.

Organized by the Taiwan-Asia Exchange Foundation, the Yushan forum invites academics, government leaders, and experts from like-minded countries to exchange views and conduct dialogue. The theme for this year’s forum is “Start A New Blueprint for Asian Development.”
