Deputy Mayor of Paris Jean-Luc Romero-Michel confirmed on Monday that he will visit Taiwan to attend the country's annual Taiwan LGBT+ Pride on October 28. In a post on social media, Romero-Michel reiterated his support for Taiwan in the face of Chinese pressure and pointed out that Taiwan is the first country in Asia to legalize same-sex marriage.

Romero-Michel, who is an advocate for human rights and anti-discrimination, has been a supporter of Taiwan for many years. In his opening speech at the 100th anniversary party of the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) last year, he conveyed support for Taiwan and condemned China’s threats against Taiwan.

On Monday, Romero-Michel posted a picture with Taiwan’s representative to France Francois Wu (吳志中)  on X, formerly known as Twitter, and expressed his excitement about meeting Wu and coming to Taiwan. Wu later also shared Romero-Michel’s post on Facebook. In the post, Wu says he is working with the deputy mayor’s staff on finalizing the details of Romero-Michel’s visit.
