Premiere Chen Chien-jen (陳建仁) attended the launch ceremony of the Research Institute for Democracy, Society and Emerging Technology (DSET) on Monday.

The DSET was established by the National Science and Technology Council to tackle social and security issues brought by emerging technologies. The institute intends to strengthen the connections between the government and society while adhering to the principle of democracy.

Chen says that it is an urgent task to reinforce the connection between technology, humanities, and social science in the post-pandemic era. He believes that no single discipline can stand alone and that interdisciplinary collaborations contribute to the welfare of all people.

Chen says that only a free and democratic society can foster an environment for unconstrained talents in the pursuit of scientific truths. He hopes that the DSET will help Taiwan stay innovative and resilient, as well as enable more regional and global collaborations.
