The Taiwan Halal Center, in collaboration with eight Taiwanese companies, participated at the 2023 Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS), which opened in Kuala Lumpur last Tuesday.
The Center, which is under the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), works on facilitating the market entry of Taiwanese products into the global Muslim market.
Taiwan Trade Center Kuala Lumpur Director Eva Peng (彭湘尹) said the Taiwanese government has been promoting Muslim-friendly products since 2017 and over 1,000 local companies have obtained halal certification. Peng also said that Taiwanese companies have joined in numerous trade shows to develop businesses in Malaysia, hoping to promote Taiwanese halal products to the world.
The Muslim market presents a significant area for growth for Taiwanese food and cosmetic industries. According to the Sin Chew Daily, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the global market of halal products is estimated to reach US$ 2.4 trillion by 2024 in his opening remarks at the event.
The MIHAS will run until September 15 and is being held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur. The event has convened more than 1,014 companies from 44 countries and is expected to attract over 35,000 buyers.
