Two Taiwanese nationals have returned safely from Niger following a coup that shook the country in July. The foreign ministry said on Thursday that the two people had been working in the country and returned to Taiwan on September 6.
The foreign ministry’s West Asian and African affairs department Acting Deputy Director-General Chen Yung-po (陳詠博) says that with the foreign ministry's assistance, the two returned safely to Taiwan via Burkina Faso. Chen adds that the situation in the country remains unstable and the foreign ministry reminds the public to avoid business trips to Niger.
The foreign ministry will continue to pay attention to the development of the situation in the country. If people need urgent assistance, they can call the emergency number of the foreign ministry or the emergency contact number of the representative office in France.
