The foreign ministry strongly condemned China for its continued distortion of Taiwan’s sovereignty on Wednesday.

The statement was made in response to media coverage of the meeting between Cambodia’s new Prime Minister Hun Manet and China’s International Department Minister Liu Jianchao (劉建超) on Sunday. According to the news coverage, Manet made assurances that the Cambodian government will continue to adhere to the One-China principle. He said that Taiwan, Xinjiang, and Hong Kong are China’s internal matters.

The foreign ministry strongly condemned China for continuing its one-sided claim of Taiwan through the One-China principle. The ministry solemnly reiterated that Taiwan is a sovereign and independent country not subordinate to China. It further emphasized the undeniable fact that China has never governed Taiwan and protested China’s false narrative in meetings with other world leaders.

The ministry hopes that the new Cambodian Prime Minister will abandon outdated policies and approach exchanges in a pragmatic and open manner. It believes that Taiwan and Cambodia should focus on win-win economic and trade cooperation to expand bilateral relations.
