Damage to many areas of Taiwan’s infrastructure is a large part of Typhoon Haikui’s aftermath.
The Central Emergency Operation Center reports nearly 3,000 emergencies were caused by Haikui as of Tuesday morning. These included over 1,700 road blockages caused by downed trees and 136 injuries. Losses to farming, forestry, fishery, and animal husbandry products and facilities across the country valued at nearly NT$258 million were also reported by the agricultural ministry.
The storm caused power outages to more than 79,000 households across the island and power still has not yet been restored to more than 7,000 households. Economic Affairs Deputy Minister Tseng Wen-sheng (曾文生) says that he expects 90% of the electrical supply will be restored before nightfall on Tuesday. He reassures that as long as workers can reach the lines, power will be brought back to the people as soon as possible, with water supply repairs to follow.
