Passengers from the United States transiting through Taiwan will now be exempted from security checks in Taiwan. Taiwan’s Civil Aeronautics Administration announced on Friday that the “One-Stop Security” program is now in place, and some airlines including China Airlines, EVA Air, and Starlux have already implemented it.

The change is estimated to save passengers one hour of waiting time for security checks, benefiting 16 flights and around 3,000 passengers every day.

The administration says the reason for the change is to reduce waiting times and increase the amount of time transit passengers spend in commercial areas, promoting consumption and enhancing passengers' experience as well as improving airport competitiveness.

In July, Taiwan aviation officials met with their U.S. counterparts at San Francisco Airport and Los Angeles Airport to verify local aviation security measures. They confirmed that U.S. airport facilities and procedures meet Taiwan's security inspection requirements.

Taiwan and the U.S. have already implemented “One-Stop Security” for checked luggage since 2019, a policy that also applies to passengers coming from Canada and New Zealand. The new rules will expand the scope such that passengers coming from the U.S. can forgo security checks entirely.
