Taiwan’s representative office in Singapore released a report on Friday underscoring the country’s key role in the global semiconductor supply chain. The report, titled "Taiwan and the Global Semiconductor Industry Chain", provides a comprehensive look into industry and also outlines investment opportunities in the field, especially in Taiwan.

Semiconductors have become the cornerstone of modern technology, providing essential components to artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, 5G communications, electric vehicles, and more. Given the demand, analysts expect the entire industry to continue to grow and surpass US$1trillion by the end of this decade.

The report highlights Taiwan’s indispensable role, ranking first in market share for both wafer manufacturing and packaging and testing, and second in IC design. In 2022, 63.8% of the world’s semiconductors output came from Taiwan, which included around 70% of the global production capacity for advanced chips under 7 nanometers.

Even with a robust semiconductor ecosystem, the Taiwan government is seeking like-minded partners to consolidate the country’s industrial supply chains. According to the report, the economic ministry is looking to collaborate in the areas of semiconductor equipment and materials and on the establishment of operations and research centers with policy incentives being provided.
