The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Thursday that Taiwan will donate US$500,000 (NT$16 million) to assist in disaster relief and reconstruction following the wildfire in Maui, Hawaii.
The foreign ministry says it is in contact with the Hawaii state government through its Honolulu office regarding the donation which will be made to the Maui Strong Fund established by the Hawai’i Community Foundation. Funds will be directly applied to disaster relief and reconstruction needs.
The ministry says Taiwan and Hawaii have had an established sister-state relationship for the past 30 years and that the friendship between the two countries’ people is profound. It says that Taiwan hopes it can help the victims rebuild their homes as soon as possible and return to normal life.
