An Indigenous defense fighter had an oil leak during flight practice for Saturday’s air show at Taichung’s Ching Chuan Kang Air Force base.

One of Taiwan’s Indigenous defense fighter jets, also known as an IDF, experienced an oil leak on Thursday during a preparation flight for an upcoming air show. Moments after leaving the runway the plane began to spew large flames from its exhaust and ground technicians immediately contacted the aviator in charge. Fortunately, just three minutes later the pilot made a safe landing and nobody was hurt.

The air show is due to happen at Taichung's Ching Chuan Kang Air Force base (中清泉崗基地) on Saturday. The air force Thunder Tigers aerobatic display team will also make a tri-color presentation in the sky and various aircraft including F-16Vs, IDFs, and Mirage 2000s will be displayed for the public’s viewing pleasure. Saturday's show will be the first to take place since the pandemic and the military hopes to present the public with the opportunity to familiarize themselves with Taiwan’s national defense.
