The 2023 Taiwan Primary School World Cup Invitational will be held in Taipei from August 16 to 18. The tournament aims to provide children’s football teams with opportunities for international exchange.
Football teams from Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Indonesia will participate in the tournament. More than 600 Taiwanese primary school football teams have competed in the competition since the end of last year. The final two Taiwanese teams will represent Taiwan at the event.
Vice President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) attended a press conference for the tournament on Wednesday. He says that Taiwan has performed admirably at international competitions in recent years. Lai recalled how he was surprised to see Taiwan's national women’s football team being featured at a special football exhibition in Germany. Lai says this exemplifies Taiwan’s potential and strength in sports.
Lai adds he hopes the tournament goes smoothly and wishes for the success of Taiwan’s teams, and that the competition might raise Taiwanese people’s enthusiasm for football. He also expressed his gratitude to the business and sports community for their support.
