Taiwan participated at the APEC’s Senior Disaster Management Officials Forum in Seattle on Thursday and shared achievements made in disaster prevention at the meeting.
National Science and Technology Council Minister Wu Tsung-tsong (吳政忠) said Taiwan has reinforced its resilience and capability in countering disasters with the integration of digital technologies. He described how digital governance plans used the Internet of Things (IoT), big data, and AI to monitor earthquakes, air quality, water resources and rescue response.
Wu cited Taiwan as an example of a country that faces the compound risks of natural disasters and environmental change. As such, the Taiwan government continues to promote long-term projects, offers science-based solutions, and engages with civil society to mobilize the participation of society as a whole.
Wu emphasized that Taiwan retains both solid knowledge and practical experience in disaster management. He said Taiwan commits to making more contributions to disaster prevention capacity building with APEC and looks forward to further exchanges with its member states.
