When government-issued weather warnings are in effect, most people stay at home or seek shelter from storm conditions. However, Typhoon Khanun’s impressive display of power along Taiwan’s shoreline is drawing spectators.
Typhoon Khanun’s strong winds are creating huge waves along the coast of northern Taiwan. The massive surges measure up to 6 meters high, drawing many people to the shoreline to observe or capture the ocean activity on camera. Taking shelter from the worst gusts, the wave watchers say that the storm is causing impressively high waves and alarming conditions.
Coastal roads are covered with debris after high tide exacerbated ocean turbulence. The winds are strong enough that locals have secured trash receptacles and outdoor furniture to prevent things from being blown or swept away. One resident says that they are used to the waves coming up and over the shoreline onto their property due to rough weather conditions. Some shop owners have lowered their metal shutters to protect their wares from the might of Typhoon Khanun’s chaos.
The coast guard is advising people to remain at home and if travel is required, to be vigilant of weather conditions.
