The agriculture ministry officially launched today with the incumbent agriculture council chief, Chen Chi-chung (陳吉仲), taking the helm.
During the inauguration ceremony, Chen promised to continue to safeguard the rights and interests of farmers and fisherfolk by multiple means, including lowering the production costs for farmers. Chen then mentioned plans for the provision of subsidies for agricultural machinery and equipment. He also added that exports of agricultural products to the U.S. and Japan will be vigorously pursued.
He also stated that the ministry will enact strategies to counter climate change. The strategies will build on the foundation paved by the New Agriculture Innovation Promotion Program 2.0., a government initiative that responds to the many challenges in the agricultural sector.
The program seeks to increase benefits for farmers, address worker shortages, properly manage agricultural land resources, modernize infrastructure and ensure food safety.
