Typhoon Doksuri has caused severe damage in Taiwan’s outlying islands of Kinmen and Penghu, flooding streets, sinking fishing boats, and damaging roads, leaving locals with much to restore after the storm passes.

Typhoon Doksuri continues to bring heavy rainfall and wind, causing serious damage in Taiwan’s outlying islands of Kinmen and Penghu. Five meter high waves could be seen at the Liao-luo port in Kinmen. Strong winds brought by Doksuri toppled trees, shop signs, parked scooters, and even an iron rooftop.
As Doksuri’s eyewall passes the Penghu Islands on Friday morning, streets are flooded with seawater. On Shomon Island, local residents have tried in vain to clear clogged sewers. The severe weather conditions even resulted in a 50 meter long crack wider than a palm splitting one of the roads apart near the coast.
Massive waves continued to hit Xiwei port in Magong, Penghu on Friday, sinking several docked fishing boats. A local fisherman says it’s disappointing that the local government has been talking about building a north to south breakwater for the past two years. Yet, nothing has been done so far.
Though Doksuri is slowly moving away from Taiwan, it will take some time for local communities to restore damages.
