As of Monday morning Typhoon Doksuri is approximately 900 kilometers southeast of Hengchun heading north-northwest, with a maximum sustained wind speed of 144 kilometers per hour and a storm radius of 250 kilometers.
The Central Weather Bureau stated that although the path of Doksuri has moved slightly to the west, a maritime typhoon warning will still be issued tonight. The probability of issuing a land warning tomorrow is still very high and the whole of Taiwan will likely be threatened by strong winds and heavy rain on Thursday.
Interior minister Lin Yu-chang (林右昌) said at a press conference on Monday morning that a typhoon has not hit Taiwan for four years. Lin urged central and local governments, businesses, and the public to be vigilant and make preparations. Lin added that all local governments should test disaster prevention equipment to ensure all machines run smoothly.
Lin also called on the public to be cautious when traveling and reminded tourists in the outlying islands to prepare for departure as soon as possible. Mountain entry permit applications will also be suspended until the weather has cleared.
