Vice President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) attended the “‘Green Finance towards Net Zero’ Agricultural Bank and Young Farmers for Net-Zero Initiative” event on Thursday morning.
In his address, Lai said that young farmers are the new force in net-zero transformation and explained the government's policies on agricultural net-zero changes. He also expressed his expectations for cross-domain collaboration involving industry, government, academia, and research.
Lai referred to President Tsai Ing-wen’s (蔡英文) 2021 declaration of Taiwan's mission to achieve net-zero by 2050, highlighting the significant impact of agriculture on global carbon emissions, which amounts to approximately 30%. He said the participation of the agricultural sector could be a significant driving force toward achieving net-zero targets.
Last year, the government unveiled a road map for achieving net-zero which includes plans to invest NT$900 billion (US$28.9 billion) by 2030 to stimulate private investment.
