North Korea fired two short-range ballistic missiles from the Sunan area near Pyongyang toward the Sea of Japan in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The event occurred hours after a U.S. nuclear-armed ballistic missile submarine was deployed to South Korea for the first time since the 1980s.

Taiwan's foreign ministry says that since last year, North Korea has frequently test-fired various ballistic and cruise missiles, raising tensions in the Korean peninsula and the Indo-Pacific region. For example, on July 12, North Korea tested its latest Hwasong-18 intercontinental ballistic missile. The ministry has condemned the launch and the disregard for the United Nations Security Council ban.

During the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting on July 14, South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin also reiterated the importance of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.

The foreign ministry has said that Taiwan will remain vigilant towards North Korea's military intimidation and provocation. It says that Taiwan will collaborate with like-minded countries to jointly promote peace and prosperity, while curbing the expansion and aggression of authoritarianism and maintaining the rules-based international order.
