The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has issued a communiqué condemning China’s ambitions and coercive policies at the Vilnius summit on Tuesday. The statement says China is challenging NATO’s interests, security, and values.

During the summit press conference, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said that China is increasingly testing the rules-based international order. He points out that China has refused to condemn Russia for its aggression against Ukraine, and threatens Taiwan. He added that NATO members have agreed to continue cooperating in responding to China's coercive behavior.

Foreign ministry European department director Vincent Yao (姚金祥) said that highlighting China’s threat to Taiwan in the summit press conference demonstrates the Secretary-General's concern for the security of the Taiwan Strait, which is of great significance.

The foreign ministry reaffirms Taiwan’s commitment as a responsible and democratic member of the Indo-Pacific region. It says Taiwan is willing to work together with like-minded partners in Europe and the United States to maintain a rules-based international order.
